Singer songwriter Rowan Lawson has, for the past two years, been singing and performing at music venues across the country, including Jools Holland’s venue The Jamhouse in Birmingham, and more recently as part of Shropshire music festival, ‘Loopfest’ which was held in venues across Shrewsbury. His music has been described as ‘Indie-tinged with thoughtful lyrics’, and his style has been likened to Bob Dylan.
Rowan’s songs, available on all major streaming platforms, have received air play and praise from BBC Introducing Shropshire, BBC Introducing West Midlands, and his song ‘December Eyes’ earned the accolade of ‘Song of the Week’ on Rick Witter’s, lead singer of Shed 7, radio show.
On music, and songwriting, Rowan says, “It has always been a passion. There is something magical about pulling a song out of the air, then performing it to an audience and seeing people dance and enjoy themselves, feel something.”
Since the pandemic Rowan has been building momentum on the music scene, and is hoping for big things in the future. “I love writing on acoustic guitar, and have hundreds of songs I’ve written that way. I also love writing in a band, throwing ideas back and forth, trying things out, making mistakes… if it’s done right everyone is adding their best, then it’s as much about the music as the song itself. I’m in the process of working with local musicians and singers to get that kind of outfit together, so watch this space.”
Rowan’s influences include Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and John Frusciante.
